Laurel Campus SCC Respiratory Care Program students win Kentucky Society for Respiratory Care academic bowl, advance to national event

Students in the Respiratory Care Program at the Laurel Campus of Somerset Community College won the Kentucky Society for Respiratory Care (KSRC) academic bowl on Sept. 13. The Advanced Respiratory Care Technology academic team at the Laurel South of Somerset Community College successfully competed in the annual Kentucky Society for Respiratory Care (KSRC) academic bowl at the Four Points Sheraton in Lexington on Thursday, September

 

13th, 2007. The Laurel Campus team was impressive in defeating the team from Southeast Community College and in capturing the championship against a strong practitioner team from Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond.

The bowl is similar in format to the “Jeopardy” game show as seen on television. The questions traverse the full range of Respiratory Care Technology and critically tested the participants’ knowledge of their chosen profession.

The KSRC is an affiliate of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), which hosts the national academic championships each year. The SCC students will represent Kentucky in the national championships in 2008 in Anaheim, California.

Academic team members are Joel Emerson (Captain), Russell Springs; Bryan McDonald, Russell Springs; Angela Mills, London; and Matthew Todhunter, Somerset.

Jess Hoskins, Jason Asher and Cindy Fouts are the instructors in the Laurel Campus Respiratory Care Program and they are also the coaches of the victorious team.
