SCC to host Wellness Day Nov. 19
Somerset Community College in partnership with several community organizations will host a Wellness Day on Monday, Nov. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Harold Rogers Student Commons Community Room. The public is invited.
Wellness Day will include a number of health screening booths and information booths.
A full panel of blood work will be available for from the SCC Clinical Laboratory Technician Program. The cost of the test will be $10 and $15 for men over 40 years of age who also want a PSA (Prostate) test. Those taking the blood test will need to refrain from eating or drinking anything for twelve hours prior to having blood drawn.
The SCC Nursing Program will provide free blood pressure tests. The SCC Physical Therapy Assistant Program will provide an Orthopedic screening. The SCC Respiratory Therapist Program will provide Vital Capacity and Pulse Oximetry testing.
The American Cancer Society will have a booth and a Cancer Risk Assessement will be provided by the Kentucky Cancer Program.
FitKY will provide information about childhood obesity, while the Pulaski County Health Department will provide a Dermiscan.
The Kentucky Organ Donor group will also have an informational booth as will Hospice of Lake Cumberland and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
The Blakley YMCA will provide Pilates and Yoga demonstrations. Total HealthCare Fitness will be doing body fat analysis. The organization Pulaski Smoke Free will also have a booth.
The event is being sponsored by the SCC Wellness Center and SCC Professional Development.
