Local poets and artists offer chap book with love theme at “Una Notte d’Amore” (A Night of Love) Concert by the SCC Vocal Ensemble on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14
Friends of the Somerset Community College Vocal Ensemble have put together a chap book of poetry and artwork entitled “Duets: Art and Poetry Together.” The book is co-edited by Gayle Waddell and Jamison Brumm and published by Whitesquirrel Press. The book will be available for sale for $10. All proceeds will go the Music Department at SCC.
A chap book is a small, somewhat informal, collection of poetry by a single poet or group of poets.
The book includes poems by several known local poets including Wilma Gayle Waddell, Sonya Jones, Brenda K. White, Wanda Fries, Pauline House, and Dave Cazalet. All of the poems are on the theme of love. Artwork in the book was donated by Jamison Brumm, Bill Brumm, Dean Lovins, and Dave Cazalet.
“We thought, with Valentine’s Day coming up, this love-themed book of poetry and art would make a nice gift for just about any sweetheart,” Waddell said.
Poems by Waddell included in the book are: Infatuation, Music Lessons, Consummation, Repentance, and Lovers Whispers and Harsher Sounds. Poems by White are Symphony, On Twentieth Anniversary of Our Marriage, and Yellow trout-lily. Poems by Fries included in the book are Demeter’s Defense, I Am My Beloved’s/My Beloved Is Mine, and Love Among the Ruins. The poem R & B Guru by Sonya Jones is part of the book, as is the poem Phoenix by Dave Cazalet.
The book will be available for purchase during regular business hours at the Somerset Community College Box Office located in Stoner Hall on the SCC Somerset Campus and during performances of the SCC Vocal Ensemble.
The next SCC Vocal Ensemble concert will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, (Valentine’s Day) beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Meece Auditorium, located in Meece Hall on the SCC Somerset Campus.
