New Clinton Center Cosmetology Program to hold Open House July 13

The Clinton Center of Somerset Community College will host an Open House for the new Clinton Center Cosmetology Program on Monday, July 13, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Central Daylight Time - CDT) or 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time – EDT). The public is invited and light refreshments will be served.

A question and answer session will be held for interested students and a tour of the newly renovated cosmetology laboratory will be conducted.

The SCC Cosmetology Program coordinator is Jerry Copenhaver will be on hand to answer questions. Copenhaver opened the successful cosmetology programs at the SCC Laurel Campus in London and the SCC Somerset Campus.

Financial Aid is available to those who qualify for this program. The maximum initial class size for the new Clinton Center Cosmetology Program is 20 students. Classes will start Monday, August 17.

SCC offers a Certificate in Cosmetology which takes 16 weeks to complete. The College also offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Cosmetology which is a 2-year program. SCC also offers a diploma in Cosmetology and certificates in nail technology and esthetics.

The Associate in Applied Science Degree in Cosmetology at Somerset Community College includes not less than 1,800 hours of instruction and 135 hours in applied academic courses totaling 1,935 clock hours and 63 credit hours.

Along with classroom theory, students receive hands-on experience in the laboratory area. Upon successful completion of the prescribed program, the graduate is prepared to take the Apprentice Cosmetology Examination. After a six-month apprenticeship, under direct supervision of a licensed cosmetologist, the apprentice is required to sit for an additional state board examination to become a licensed cosmetologist.

Somerset Community College’s Cosmetology Program is licensed and the curriculum is approved by the Kentucky Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists.

In order to be admitted to the program, a student must complete an SCC Admissions Application, and submit their high school/college transcript or a copy of their General Equivalency Diploma.
