SCC is ranked 16th best place to work of large organizations in Kentucky

Somerset Community College was selected as the 16th Best Place to Work in Kentucky among large organizations at the Fourth Annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky Awards Dinner held on Thursday, April 17, at the Lexington Convention Center. SCC has been named as one of the best places to work in Kentucky for three of the four years that the competition has been in existence. This year’s ranking was SCC’s best showing so far.

“It is an honor to be named one of Kentucky’s Best Places to Work,” said Dr. Jo Marshall, the SCC President and CEO. “It’s our people who make SCC a great place to work and our consistent placement among the best is positive proof that we have a great team at SCC.”
Only two educational institutions in Kentucky were named to the total list of 50 Best Places to Work in Kentucky. SCC was one, while Bellarmine University, a private Catholic college, was the other. Bellarmine ranked 22nd in the large organization category of 25.
Twenty-Five organizations with more than 250 employees were named Best Places to Work and 25 companies with less than 250 employees were also named to the list. Most of the winners were financial, health care or legal organizations.

The first place award in this year’s competition went to the financial firm, Edward Jones. Second through fifth place honors went to major heath care institutions such as Frankfort-Regional Medical Center, King’s Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, Pikeville Medical Center and Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

“The Best Places to Work in Kentucky program identifies those companies who set the standard for employee engagement in the Commonwealth,” said Trasee Whitaker, the chair of the Kentucky Society for Human Resources Management, one of the co-founders of the competition. “Congratulations to all of the 2008 Best Places to Work in Kentucky winning companies.”

David Adkissson, the President and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce said, “The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is pleased that there are so many companies in the Commonwealth that hold such a strong commitment to their employees. We would like to congratulate those employers who go the extra mile in making their companies among the ‘Best Places to Work in Kentucky.’”
