Somerset Community College (SCC) and Union College (UC) recently signed two different 2+2 Transfer Agreements, making it even easier for SCC students to transfer to Union College. The agreements relate to obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Middle School Education with a specialization in either Natural Science or Math/Social Studies.

The agreements were developed in an effort to increase the opportunities for Somerset Community College (SCC) graduates to pursue baccalaureate degree programs and to enhance their ability to transfer into and complete a bachelor’s degree in Middle School Education with a Natural Science or Math/Social Studies emphasis at Union College. The agreements are also designed to assist both institutions in meeting the Council on Postsecondary Education goal of increasing the number of baccalaureate degrees earned in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Once a student completes the Associate of Arts degree at SCC and meets all requirements, the student will be fully and completely accepted directly into Union College and the transfer coursework will satisfy their liberal education core.  The complete transfer framework program will consist of 67-69 credit hours.

Additional specifics for the Union College include:
• A 2.0 overall grade point average
• Residency requirements
• Cultural studies requirement

"I love the idea of partnerships with public and private colleges,” said Dr. Marcia Hawkins, Union College President. “We recognize that our students have a lot of obligations in their lives and we need to meet our students where they are."

"We appreciate Union College for this agreement because it  is a great opportunity for our students to transfer to a 4-year college,” said Dr. Tony Honeycutt, Somerset Community College Provost. “It helps all citizens in this area of Kentucky."
