Somerset Community College faculty members Wanda and Denny Fries will be leading a group to Italy & Greece this summer (May 15-May 25). Wanda teaches Greek and Roman Mythology in Translation and Denny geology, and the trip will be built around those themes.
Beginning in Rome, the tour includes the Coliseum where gladiators fought and
Vatican City, with a focus on the Sistine
Chapel and the classical art on display at the Vatican. From there the group will head to Pompeii and then to the Sorrento region, with an opportunity to walk to the edge of the crater of Vesuvius. Sites in Greece will include the Parthenon and the temple of Apollo at Delphi. Those who would like to continue their trip longer will have an opportunity to take a 3-day cruise of some Greek islands and Ephesus in Turkey.
The fee for the trip is around $3800 for the 10-day trip and includes airfare from Cincinnati and all local transportation, shared hotel rooms with private baths, breakfast and some dinners. It also includes a tour guide who will be with us 24/7, trip insurance, and entrances to the
sites (often with a local guide to describe what the group will be seeing). There is also either a free day in Rome or the option (at an extra charge for the ticket) to take a train to Florence for the day.
