Radiography
ATTENTION:
Classes will begin in August 2008 for new students accepted into the radiography program. Students interested in applying to the program this year must attend a pre-admission conference during this spring semester. Students in attendance will receive an informational packet which includes an application. Please note that a student must attend a conference to obtain an application. Pre-registration is not required for conferences.
The last two radiography conference dates this year are as follows:

This program prepares the individual to become a radiographer. Emphasis is on radiation protection and quality patient care. The curriculum is comprised of specialized courses in radiography along with concentrated studies in the basic sciences, mathematics, and general education.
What can I do with this degree?
The Radiography Program prepares graduates to administer ionizing radiation for medical diagnostic imaging purposes. Graduates are prepared to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Examination. Radiographers may find positions in hospitals, health clinics, and physicians’ offices. Research laboratories and some industrial firms also employ radiographers.
When and How do I get started with this degree?
The following materials must be on file in the Program Coordinator’s office before April 1:
- Application for admission to SCC.
- Official high school transcript indicating that the applicant has or will complete a high school course of study or a passing GED official score report.
- Official or certified transcripts of all college education or training.
- ACT scores.
- A pre-admission conference with the Radiography Coordinator is required prior to an applicant’s consideration by the Radiography Admissions Committee. APPLICANT MUST ATTEND ONE CONFERENCE during each admissions period. Attending a conference at another Community College will not be acceptable.

Admission Criteria
Potential candidates are recommended to the President by the Radiography Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee will make their recommendations based on the following:
- Completion of BIO 137 and MT 150 prior to beginning the program.
- Preference may be given to applicants who:
- Score a composite of 18 or above on ACT
- GPA of 3.0 in 10 hours of college credit applicable to the Radiography program
- Completed biological and physical sciences, and math courses listed in Radiography Program Curriculum
- Experience in direct patient care
- Residents of Kentucky
Technical Standards
- Adequate visual acuity
- Adequate auditory perception
- Sufficient strength, gross motor, and fine motor coordination
- Sufficient verbal and written communication skills
Additional Criteria
Upon admittance the student must submit the following materials prior to beginning clinical experiences.
- Evidence of receiving the Hepatitis B vaccine series or a vaccine declination form
- TB skin test or chest X-Ray
- Immunization records
Student Responsibilities
In addition to tuition, students are responsible for transportation to the various clinical sites, professional liability insurance, books, and uniforms. Any student seeking financial assistance should contact the Financial Aid Office.
