Automotive Technology
The Automotive Technology Program prepares graduates to work on systems such as engines, on-board computers, transmissions, steering, suspension, and brakes. Knowledge of the various systems are used to develop skills in troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance, servicing, and repairing automobiles. Students may take the ASE exams in segments, as noted in the curriculum.
There are several completion points in the Automotive Technology Program, listed below. Students are eligible to receive seven certificates, a diploma, and an Associate of Applied Science degree in General and Occupational Studies (AAS--GOTS).
- Automotive Air Conditioning Mechanic - 4 credit hours
- Automotive Electrician - 10 credit hours
- Automotive Transmission Mechanic - 10 cedit hours
- Brake Repairer - 5 credit hours
- Engine Repairer - 5 credit hours
- Front End Mechanic - 5 credit hours
- Tune Up Mechanic - 25 credit hours
- Automotive Technician - 67 credit hours (Diploma)
- Associate of Applied Science degree in General and Occupational Studies (AAS--GOTS) - minimum 42 credit hours + 18 restricted general education credit hours
What can I do with this degree?
The Automotive Technology Program prepares students to enter the workforce in an entry-level service technician job in the auto repair industry.
- ASE/NATEF Certified program
- Graduates have the option of working in new car dealerships and automotive repair shops.
- Transition from graduation to self-employment is relatively easy.
- Automotive Technicians are in great demand and have the ability to earn competitive wages in today’s workplace.
When and How do I get started with this degree?
The following materials must be on file in the Admissions Office:
- Application for admission to SCC
- Official high school transcript or passing GED official score report
- Transcripts of all post-secondary education or training
- Results of the COMPASS or ACT examination report

Student Responsibilities
In addition to tuition, students are responsible for transportation to the co-op site, appropriate attire, and books. Any student seeking financial assistance should contact the Financial Aid Office.
