Adult Education

Who Is Eligible for Adult Education Services?

Any Kentucky resident who is sixteen years of age or older (not enrolled in high school or required to be enrolled in high school) who needs to work on skills necessary for successful employment or personal development can take advantage of the many services and programs we offer. Persons age 16-18 will be required to provide certain additional documentations.

Programs Offered

GED Program

Provides educational opportunities to Kentucky adults (16 years of age or older) who wish to obtain a GED diploma. Pre-GED testing is free.

Literacy Tutoring

Provides training in individual basic reading and writing for anyone wishing to improve his or her skills.

Computer Skills

Provides free Internet, E-mail, Windows, Microsoft Office, Keyboarding and resume writing classes.

Family Literacy

For parents, we offer GED preparation along with parenting skills, life skills, employment skills and other tools needed for independence. Take-home activities and family nights for parents and children are a part of the family literacy program.

Kentucky Para-Educator

State law requires employees with less than two years of college credit working with children in a school system to take the Kentucky Para-educator test. Tests are given daily at the Casey Co. Adult Learning Center and by appointment at the McCreary Co. Adult Learning Center.

Workplace Essential Skills Program

Free WorkKeys assessment provides skills training designed to meet the needs of employers and individuals seeking new or improved employment. A Kentucky Employability Certificate signed by the Governor of Kentucky can be earned by taking the WorkKeys exam.

English As A Second Language

Provides non-English speaking residents with instruction in English conversation, grammar and writing skills.

Career Coaching

Our career coaching can help you prepare your resume, practice interview techniques, fill out job applications, and refine your job search. We have interest and aptitude tests available to help you discover the career opportunities you may be most suited for.

College Preparation

Are you thinking about enrolling in a college or technical college? If you want to brush up on your math or English skills, use some of our ACT / SAT preparation materials, or improve your score on the COMPASS test, we can help. We will also assist you with your financial aid forms, college or technical school applications.

We also administer the COMPASS test for Somerset Community College.
